Diamond Quantum’s Goodly Calcium Demonstrates Stable Yield with Reduced Nitrogen Management in Japanese Rice Fields

2025/10/01

Recently, Axxion Corporation, the Japanese distributor of Diamond Quantum’s  fertilizers, conducted a rice field trial in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture. The trial was designed under the theme: “30% Reduction of Nitrogen Fertilizer in Rice Cultivation and the Effect of Goodly Calcium on Yield and Quality.”In the control group, only one basal fertilization was applied at planting. In the treatment group, the basal fertilizer amount was reduced by 30%, and Goodly Calcium was applied twice (100 mL/10a each) using drones—once at BBCH 30 and again at BBCH 55—to supply calcium and silicon, and to observe its effects on rice growth and yield.

During the trial, the first application of Goodly Calcium at BBCH 30 (end of tillering and stem elongation stage) was carried out at a critical timing when tiller number had already been fixed, directly influencing yield potential. The second application at BBCH 55 (heading stage) was intended to enhance panicle development, pollination, and grain filling, thereby improving yield stability and grain quality.

Key results of the trial include:

  • Significant reduction in nitrogen fertilizer use: from 6 kg/10a down to 4.2 kg/10a.

  • Stable yield performance:Even with 30% nitrogen reduction, the yield of first-grade rice showed no significant difference compared to the control.

  • Improved crop vigor:The treatment group showed a SPAD value of 20.1, higher than the control group’s 17.6, indicating better leaf nitrogen status.
  • Enhanced lodging resistance:No lodging was observed in the treatment group, whereas slight lodging occurred in the control.

These results demonstrate the potential of Goodly Calcium in enabling nitrogen reduction strategies in rice cultivation. By contributing to both quality and stability, Diamond Quantum aims to promote such technologies to help farmers achieve “higher efficiency through rational fertilization,” reduce environmental burden, and provide concrete solutions for sustainable agriculture.
